Kaizen applied to improving function in school. Interview between Seth Perler and Debbie Steinberg Kuntz (Issaquah!). Debbie hosted a summit that has some great resources including video interviews with thought leaders in the fields of learning, ADHD, social-emotional regulation, etc.
The big take-aways: It's not that students "won't" do what you want them to do; it's they "can't"--but they can learn. We need to respect and support students' strengths, first. Then, identify the challenges, but drill down into the details; run experiments on what changes you can do to try one small thing. Build trust and listen well to the teen; gain entree into their psychological investments and goals. Then ask what's getting in their way, and get to work on that.
